HP Killing off there small businesses reseller accounts

2013 SW PartyHP Changes it’s Authorized Supplies Reseller Policy, Now Requiring Reporting On Sales To End Customers…

Beginning October 20, HP made another big change to it’s authorized reseller policy. The OEM now requires HP resellers to collect and report sales data on there end users, essentially Point-of-Sale (POS) data. Starting November 2013 HP changed it’s distribution policy for supplies from an open system to an authorized reseller system, requiring that resellers must have an agreement with HP in order to purchase and resell HP supplies from HP authorized distributors. Then earlier this year HP announced it would be requiring authorized resellers of supplies to obtain “qualified” status as of November 1, 2014. To meet the “qualified” requirement previously authorized resellers would now have to purchase at least $30,000 per year, along with requirements regarding customer service, delivery mechanisms, functioning websites and having a physical address. Earlier this year HP reported that since shifting from open distribution to an authorized program for it’s supplies it had seen it’s number of resellers drop nearly in half from 15,000 to 8,000. It seems likely with the additional move from “authorized” to qualified thousands more resellers will be displaced. Now those HP supplies resellers will also have the additional burden and risk of providing the sales information on there end customers to HP. HP will then, for example, have a list of the largest end customers for its products. HP sells direct and has it’s own direct MPS offering, so you can see where they could be headed with this. It appears that HP is trying to manage and eventually own the relationship with the end customer. At the end of the day the resellers customer list and security of that list is a very important asset!
